One thing most people know about Duo is that he NAMED himself. Duo after he lost Solo and Maxwell for Father Maxwell.
When Duo was young he was taken in by older kid know as Solo. Duo and Solo grew close but then Solo was struck with the plaque that was going around the colony, in a desperate attempt to save Solo Duo runs off to get the antidote to the deadly virus, but sadly Duo doesn’t make it back in time to save Solo, so Duo gave the rest of the antidote to the other people in the group but none to himself. Duo how ever never got the virus so he believed that Solo was his guardian angel there for naming himself Duo meaning two so that Solo would always be with him.
Then later on after getting caught stealing Duo is handed over to Father Maxwell who takes him in. After being brought to the church Sister Helen tries to cut Duo’s hair but he refuse’s so instead she just braids Duo’s hair. With which he replies with ‘Now it won’t get in my way when I steal things’.( ß not exact but you get the point ^_~) Then Duo says he doesn’t believe in God, Sister Helena asks him why and he says it was because he seen only death and no miracles like people said God did, and that he only believes in Shinigami because death is all he has seen. But sadly the peace doesn’t last long here for poor Duo either when some people come to the church saying they need a MS and then to try and stop these people from hurting the only people in Duo’s life he runs off to get a MS but only to find that the church was blown up. He find’s Sister Helen but she dies shortly after that. Then to remember the lives lost he now called himself Duo ‘Maxwell’.
Also referring Duo calling himself Shinigami it is because that he takes lives and also in seems to make sense with his Gundam beginning call ‘DeathScythe’. ^_~ v
After that Duo is found on the Sweeper’s cargo ship and then after meting Professor G. Later on after trying to explode DeathScythe Professor G tells him that if he is willing to go as far as becoming Shinigami that he should go to Earth on Operation M and that a man named Howard would be on earth to help Duo out. So with that Duo head’s off to Earth.
